Brüno

July 11, 2009

brunoposter-042409Brüno:

M Says – Despite at times feeling like a series of extended sketches, there are some real moments of genius in this film, that expose the real prejudices around homosexuality. Much like Borat but far less challenging and unfortunately, less funny for it.

G Says – Not as good as Borat.

Rudo Y Cursi

rudo_y_cursiRudo Y Cursi:

M Says – Maybe this story has bee told before, but certainly enjoyable none the less.

G Says – Quite funny, refreshing backdrop to the ancient brother fable.

Sunshine Cleaning

July 1, 2009

sunshine_cleaning_xlgSunshine Cleaning:

M Says – A sweet little movie. Amy Adams might just be brilliant… time will only tell.

G Says – Second time around lovely and subtle. Somehow Alan Arkin and “sunshine” are a win-win formula.

Looking For Eric

June 24, 2009

looking_for_ericLooking For Eric:

M Says – There’s a sweet turn to this well told tale that’s hard  not to love.

G Says – Sweet and endearing. Without knowing anything about Eric beforehand, still found it enjoyable.

The Hangover

June 20, 2009

hangover_xlgThe Hangover:

M Says – The prospect of a rock hard comedy fell limp before my eyes.

G Says – No way near as funny as I wanted it to be.

Anything For Her

June 10, 2009

19120326Anything For Her:

M Says – Some pretty thrilling action over the last half hour, but the preceding hour was, at points, almost laughable. This film could have been so much better than it was, and I’m almost convinced that had this film been in English and not French, I wouldn’t have let it get away with half the things it did.

G Says – It was a very tense film, at some moments heart-wrenching, but a bit far-fetched.  It is okay…certainly NOT unforgettable.

Star Trek

June 3, 2009

star_trek_xi_ver16Star Trek:

M Says – As a non-Trekkie I still found this completely good fun. It’s a true popcorn movie, inventive, exciting, funny at times and above all entertaining.

G Says – Really enjoyed it, was almost enough to make me want to dive head first into the obsession, conventions and all.

Coraline

May 29, 2009

coraline_ver2Coraline:

M Says – A visual delight in 3D. Highly enjoyable and fun. Perhaps not as adult friendly as the Pixar films like Wall-E but still well worth the watch.

G Says – Fantastic children’s horror movie. The first movie I’ve seen where the 3D doesn’t overpower, just enhances.

Let The Right One In

April 11, 2009

let_the_right_one_in_ver3Let The Right One In:

M Says – Sensational! This year’s Pan’s Labyrinth – dark, thrilling and highly believable. For a genre that is so tired (vampire), this movie rewrites the script – fresh and original.

G Says – Beautiful, chilling, a must see.
